TLC vs QLC NAND: Why NAND Type Matters in an SSD

TLC vs QLC NAND

NAND type is one part of SSD design. Controller, firmware, cache architecture, capacity and workload also influence performance.

TLC

TLC stores three bits per cell and is widely used in consumer SSDs for a balance of performance, endurance and cost.

QLC

QLC stores four bits per cell and can enable higher capacity at lower cost, with different endurance and sustained workload characteristics.
